SPOTLIGHT ON RELIABLE SAFETY TECHNOLOGY AND SMART IIOT SOLUTIONS FOR TOWER LIGHTING
Under the motto of “Safe solutions as individual as you”, Wieland Electric will be showcasing flexible and efficient safety and communication solutions for wind power plants at HUSUM WIND 2019 from September 10 to 13. Wieland Electric will use its presence at the trade fair (Hall 2, Stand 2A05) to draw attention to well-conceived components and systems that enable reliable in-tower lighting. These involve communications-capable uninterruptible power supply (UPS) as well as smart IIoT solutions for worldwide monitoring and optimized maintenance. In particular, Wieland can support plant operators and service providers with a clever lighting system that excels with its high flexibility and minimal maintenance effort.
The in-tower emergency lighting system in wind power plants is crucial to their safety and requires a reliable power supply. For this reason, Wieland is presenting the wipos UPS 20-960, a new backup component which guarantees lighting in the tower even in the event of a power failure, enabling personnel to descend safely. The extremely robust UPS is particularly impressive on account of its compatibility with any battery technology and suitability for battery or supercap voltages of 12 to 58 V DC. This allows it to be used flexibly anywhere in the world. In addition, the battery status monitoring facility enables replacement of the battery in good time, which impacts positively on the safety and availability of the entire system. As the wipos UPS has programmable DC/DC conversion, it can also be used as a DC-DC converter. A connection to other systems is possible with a Modbus or USB port – with this communication capability the new UPS slots perfectly into Wieland’s portfolio of solutions for wind power plants in the IIoT age.
On the subject of IIoT, at HUSUM WIND 2019 Wieland will also be showing how tower lighting can be serviced efficiently using smart communication technology. A centrally fed lighting system really comes into its own during regular maintenance as the central UPS concept means that the battery is located in the base of the tower and can be replaced easily. If the wipos UPS 20-960 is also connected to a Wieland IIoT gateway, system states can be communicated to the wienet cloud and displayed via the wienet portal. This approach allows the status of the system to be retrieved anywhere in the world and also makes it possible to anticipate in good time when the battery must be replaced. The potential of predictive maintenance can therefore be exploited to the full. Maintenance work can be planned better and performed efficiently, costs can be saved, and downtime can be avoided.
Wieland will also showcase the solutions in action at HUSUM WIND 2019 through live demos at its stand (2A05). Both the uninterruptible power supply (UPS) and predictive maintenance via the wienet portal will be presented in a fully functional manner, making them tangible for visitors to the trade fair.
