SUNSHADE SYSTEMS AND SUN PROTECTION

WINDOW BLINDS (KNX, SMI)

The direct wiring between control and conventional drives is carried out using 4-pole gesis® CLASSIC variants. When modern SMI drives are used, the wiring to the drives is implemented using 5-pole gesis® CLASSIC round cables or gesis® NRG flat cables, in which control signals and power are conducted together. With the decentralized KNX system gesis® FLEX, the effort for the wiring of sun protection systems can be extremely reduced. Ideally, these actuators are supplied via a 7-pole gesis® NRG flat cable, which provides both three-phase current and the KNX network.

DC applications are possible within certain specifications; these must be coordinated with WIELAND.

Are gesis® installation connectors compatible with installation connectors from other manufacturers?

Installation connectors according to IEC EN 61535 are connectors for establishing a permanently pluggable electrical installation in buildings and are neither intended for connecting or disconnecting under load nor for connecting or disconnecting except during initial installation, maintenance measures, or changes to the cable and line system.

The installation connector system gesis® CLASSIC consists of connectors, device connections, distribution blocks, and pre-assembled variants of various cable cross-sections and different connection techniques. This makes it possible to establish a complete electrical infrastructure in a building.

Mostly, it is installed in areas that are not easily accessible, such as suspended ceilings, underfloor ducts, and cable ducts, where different environmental conditions prevail than, for example, the application of commercially available household sockets.

To ensure that power transmission via installation connectors functions safely in such environmental conditions over a long period, product standard IEC EN 61535 specifies that only installation connectors from the same manufacturer may be used because only this measure ensures that power transmission to the end circuits is guaranteed.

Do I need to cover open sockets?

DIN EN IEC 61535 distinguishes between easily accessible areas, where electrical laypersons have access to an electrical installation, and not easily accessible areas, which are reserved for electrical specialists. gesis® CLASSIC connections are also approved for easily accessible areas. However, you must close open gesis® CLASSIC sockets with closure pieces (item 05.564.5353.0) there. In not easily accessible areas, you do not necessarily have to close open sockets.

Why do some GST18i3 items have two standards and two rated currents (IEC 61535: 20 A, EN 60320: 16 A)?

The rated current of the gesis® CLASSIC system is 20 A. The relevant product standard for this is IEC 61535. Pre-assembled cables with 1.5 mm² and snap-in components of type GST18i3 are also approved according to EN 60320 (household applications). However, this standard only covers products up to 16 A (household), which is why both rated currents must appear on the product.

Is connecting fixed installation cables (NYM) using connectors VDE compliant? (Initial connection with NYM)

This application is not excluded in any of the applicable VDE regulations. However, some requirements must be observed:

  • The connection points of cables not fixedly installed must be relieved of tension and thrust (strain relief and locking).
  • The supply line (NYM) must be protected from excessive bending stress during assembly by suitable fastening of the cable or plug.

WARNING

NO COMPATIBILITY BETWEEN CONNECTOR SYSTEMS FROM DIFFERENT MANUFACTURERS

Mixed connections between Wieland GST® connectors and connectors from other manufacturers can endanger the health and safety of people, animals and property.

Mixed connections between Wieland GST® connectors and connectors from other manufacturers can lead to the loss of the presumption of conformity according to Section 4 of the 1st ProdSV (Low Voltage Directive). Connectors from other manufacturers may not be made available or offered on the market in combination with Wieland GST® connectors or with the statement "Compatible with Wieland GST® connectors".

Explanation:

The Wieland gesis® CLASSIC installation connector system consists of GST® connectors, GST® device connectors, GST® distribution blocks and pre-assembled variants with different cable cross-sections and different connection techniques. All GST® products are certified in accordance with the harmonised standard EN IEC 61535 and are marketed by us for the establishment of a permanently pluggable connection in electrical installation systems.

EN IEC 61535 is a product standard and only regulates the requirements for product design; as a product standard, EN IEC 61535 does not contain any specifications for the design of connectors; i.e. unlike design standards (e.g. for the manufacture of earth contact connectors), codings and mating face can be freely selected by the manufacturers and can also be further developed within an installation connector family. This design freedom means that mechanical pluggability alone does not establish compatibility between connectors from different manufacturers.

Accordingly, the product standard EN IEC 61535 stipulates that only installation connectors from the same manufacturer should be used for installations, as this is the only way to ensure safe power transmission over a long period of time.
