ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION FOR MODERN ADMINISTRATION AND OFFICE BUILDINGS
ADMINISTRATION BUILDINGS NEED AN ELECTRICAL INFRASTRUCTURE THAT GROWS WITH THEM
– FLEXIBLY PLANNED, MODULARLY IMPLEMENTED, FUTURE-PROOF IN OPERATION
THE CHALLENGE
Electrical installations in office and administration buildings are under increasing pressure: today, they must deliver far more than in the past – and under constantly changing requirements. Already during the planning phase, reliable information about usage is often lacking. And at the latest during operation, it becomes clear: planning and reality often diverge. New workspaces emerge, flexible working environments replace fixed layouts, and remote work or relocations demand rapid adjustments. Traditional installations quickly reach their limits – the result: cable clutter, high costs, and labor-intensive retrofits.
THE OPPORTUNITY
A pluggable electrical installation offers a genuine opportunity: it can be integrated into any project modularly and step-by-step – from a quick start at room level to fully decentralized power distribution. Power, data, and signals are delivered exactly where they are needed – flexibly, neatly, and with the option to expand at any time. The result is an infrastructure that adapts to new space concepts, user groups, or technological requirements – without any intervention in the building structure.
THE SOLUTION
With the gesis® product family from Wieland, you can realize an electrical infrastructure that grows with your needs – according to your requirements, budget, and project phase. Whether simple connection technology, structured floor wiring, or fully flexible supply with consolidation points – our system adapts to your building instead of locking it into a fixed layout. This reduces planning and installation effort, lowers costs, and increases usable space. And whether refurbishment, new build, or revitalization – your infrastructure remains permanently adaptable.
YOUR ADVANTAGES COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION
“Forget ‘install once and forget’ – with Wieland, your installation grows with your needs. Smart investors, forward-thinking planners, and adaptable users choose our pluggable systems for true long-term flexibility.”
Tobias Hennemann, Product Manager, Distribution Systems
CHANGING ROOM FUNCTIONS: NEW REQUIREMENTS YEAR AFTER YEAR
Initial use: Classic open-plan office
Planned and implemented as a classic open-plan office:
The building is designed for a high workplace density. The infrastructure follows a standardized installation grid – sufficient for the initial requirements.
Initial requirements:
- Focus on maximum occupancy
- Standardized infrastructure is (still) sufficient
Adaptation: Project space with new requirements
New requirements due to changed use:
One year later, part of the space is converted into a project room. The demands increase: the space must be flexibly configurable, additional data connections and an adaptable power supply are required – first modifications become necessary.
Changed requirements:
- Flexible use of the space
- Demand for more data connections and power points
- Initial adjustments to the infrastructure
Repurposing: Conversion to a meeting zone
Next change: from project space to meeting room:
The space is repurposed again – this time for meetings. The focus shifts further toward room automation, lighting control, and media technology. Existing connections must be relocated or extended.
Further adjustments:
- New requirements for media technology and room control
- Existing infrastructure must be reconfigured
- Lighting and data connections require targeted expansion
Hybrid use: Combination of office and meeting zones
Hybrid solution required – combination of workstations and meeting area:
The space evolves into a multifunctional zone: open workstations and a partitionable meeting area now share the same space. The electrical installation must accommodate this hybrid use – with flexible, modular components.
Additional challenges:
- Parallel requirements due to mixed usage
- Need for flexible load distribution and intelligent control
- Modularity as the key to adaptability
Spaces change. Good if your electrical installation can, too.
Office and administration buildings differ in use, structure, and project phase – but one thing is always the same: the electrical installation must keep pace with change. Our pluggable system solution can be integrated into your project step-by-step – from a quick start at room level to a fully scalable infrastructure for dynamic working environments.
Whether simple connection technology, structured power distribution, or fully flexible space provisioning with decentralized consolidation points – the system grows with your needs: modular, pluggable, and future-proof. This makes it possible to realize both new builds and revitalizations economically and adaptably – without unnecessary planning loops or structural constraints.
APPLICATIONS
– ELECTRICAL SOLUTIONS FOR OFFICE AND ADMINISTRATION BUILDINGS
POWER SUPPLY
- Conventional wiring, where each extension requires new distribution and junction boxes – adding to the electrical chaos – is a thing of the past. Pluggable electrical installation systems offer outstanding advantages in terms of clarity, efficiency, and expandability – without doubt the better way to achieve modern, effective power distribution.
- From the floor distributor to the socket outlet, Wieland provides solutions for connecting individual rooms as well as integrating sockets, room automation devices, and other end devices into the building’s electrical network.
INTELLIGENT CABLING SOLUTIONS FOR OFFICE BUILDINGS
INFRASTRUCTURE CABLING
Power distribution across the floor is implemented via a smart flat cable system with a large conductor cross-section. This ensures comprehensive availability of power throughout the space.
FLOOR BOX CABLING
Smaller systems use 3-pole GST18® cabling. For larger installations, the gesis® NRG flat cable provides a structured supply to floor boxes with reduced energy consumption. Color-coded cables simplify network separation, while pluggable tap-offs enable flexible load distribution. Floor boxes are available as plug-and-play units and can be optionally equipped with protective components.
TRUNKING SYSTEM CABLING
Trunking systems offer flexible installation options. The gesis® NRG flat cables enable simple, energy-efficient three-phase power supply right up to the socket outlet. Color-coded cables simplify network separation, and pluggable tap-offs allow flexible load distribution. BRK socket outlets for trunking systems and round cable components enable a fully pluggable installation.
LIGHTING
- In lighting installations, we focus on wiring the luminaires. Using distribution blocks and corresponding infrastructure cabling, the connection to local control or motion sensors (e.g., KNX or DALI) is established.
- Decentralized installation reduces both installation effort and the required amount of raw materials. Implementation includes the use of system distributors, which we customize to meet specific project requirements.
LIGHTING CABLING IN COMMERCIAL OFFICE BUILDINGS
LIGHTING CABLING – SWITCHED
Our pluggable GST18® solution for lighting is typically installed in suspended ceilings or hollow walls. Distribution blocks and room automation enable flexible control. Switches and luminaire connections can also be integrated pluggably and variably.
LIGHTING CABLING – CONTROLLED, DALI OR 1–10 V
Depending on the time of day and room usage, flexible control of individual luminaires or lighting groups may be required. We ensure simple and safe power and signal supply: with our gesis® CLASSIC cables, distribution blocks, and connection components, DALI luminaires, for example, can be supplied with ease.
DECENTRALIZED ROOM AUTOMATION
- Using pre-assembled, pluggable system distributors (consolidation points), we place KNX and BMS (Building Management System) functions – such as lighting, blind control, heating/cooling valves, or fresh air regulation – consistently in decentralized locations. Distribution is carried out on a room-by-room basis for fast, clean, and resource-efficient installation.
ROOM AUTOMATION IN OFFICE AND ADMINISTRATION BUILDINGS
SYSTEM DISTRIBUTORS
Our system distributors offer a smart and cost-effective solution for your project business – whether for power and signal distribution, BMS applications, or complete room solutions. All variants are designed for maximum prefabrication and pluggability, allowing you to save time on-site and avoid installation errors.
SUNSHADE SYSTEMS AND SUN PROTECTION
- With our decentralized, pluggable solution, you significantly reduce cabling effort – especially for blind drives. Instead of complex 4-wire cabling, we rely on the SMI bus system (Standard Motor Interface), which allows up to 16 drives to be connected per line – via our 5-pole systems.
- Depending on the installation scenario, flat cables such as gesis® NRG, round cables such as gesis® CLASSIC, or the outdoor-rated RST® MINI are used.
SHADING AND SUN PROTECTION IN COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS
WINDOW BLINDS (KNX, SMI)
Our pre-assembled systems enable decentralized blind control via gesis® system distributors – for 230 V or 24 V DC, with optional circuit protection. The 7-pole gesis® NRG simultaneously provides three-phase power and KNX communication. For SMI drives, we integrate the required control electronics – resulting in a fully pluggable system from the control cabinet to the drive.
HOW STEP-BY-STEP INTEGRATION OF ELECTRICAL INSTALLATION WORKS
– USING POWER DISTRIBUTION AS AN EXAMPLE
BASIC INSTALLATION FOR SIMPLE APPLICATIONS
This entry-level solution is ideal for commercial office buildings with limited or stable requirements.
